One of the latest things I read, all of the romances seemed to be there just so it would be more tragic when one of the partners turned evil/died (ffs, one of them even went "oh hey after all this blows over we should settle down and get married" about half an hour before their (I-the-reader-never-realised-they-felt-that-away-about-them) partner died...). >:|
